Bio:

I'm a biology undergraduate at FIU currently working as an assistant for the DeGennaro Lab. I've always enjoyed Genetics and worked as a Learning Assistant for the genetics course at FIU for a year before taking a more hands on approach in this lab. I work directly with the Mosquitoes every day; hatching eggs, rearing larvae, collecting pupa and blood feeding adults.

Project:

I'm currently working under Elina Barredo to better understand mosquito nectar seeking behavior. We are using mosquitoes with special mutations to limit their ability to smell; tested against normal mosquitoes, we are finding how necessary a role the sense of smell plays for nectar seeking. The future applications of our research can help us better control mosquito populations, decreasing their ability to spread disease.
