Reinier was an undergraduate Biology major at Florida International University with an interest in mosquito behavioral genetics. He is currently attending FIU Medical School.
Ionotropic receptors (IR) are a class of chemoreceptors used for olfaction and taste that are likely involved in mosquito host detection. In DeGennaro lab, Reinier cloned IRs that are expressed in the mosquito's olfactory organs: the antennae and maxillary palps. These IRs are likely to play a role in mosquito olfaction.
